Garcia outguns Broner in points win
Three-weight world champion Mikey Garcia (37-0, 30 KOs) scored a 12 round unanimous decision victory over former four-weight world champion Adrien Broner (33-3, 24 KOs) on Saturday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Garcia won by scores of 117-111 and 116-112 twice.
The American got the better of countryman Broner with jabs, power punches and body shots throughout the bout.
"I think I controlled the fight in the early rounds and I kept the activity up," said Garcia. "Broner is a great fighter and he has great skills but I was the superior fighter tonight."
With the win, Garcia captured the WBC Diamond light welterweight title.
Also on the card, Ireland’s Katie Taylor (6-0, 4 KOs) won her US debut, stopping overmatched American Jasmine Clarkson (4-9, 0 KOs) after three rounds.
